Kala Krishnan is a poet, who also writes prose, and has two volumes of poetry and two of prose in print: He Is Honey, Salt and the Most Perfect Grammar, Offer Him All Things Charred, Burned & Cindered; Mahasena and Theivanai.
 

She teaches writing and Indian Literatures to degree classes, in a college in Bangalore, occasionally writes about films and books, and translates from Tamil and Sanskrit. These are in the poetry anthology Wild Women (ed. Arundhathi Subramaniam) and the novel The Devil Take Love (Sudhir Kakar).​
